Why Do We Need a Safety Action Plan?
From 2017 to 2021, there were over 4,500 traffic collisions in unincorporated Shasta County (not including the cities of Redding, Anderson, and Shasta Lake). This included 72 crashes resulting in fatalities and 299 in severe injuries. The Safety Action Plan is being undertaken with the goal of achieving "Vision Zero" - the elimination of all traffic-related fatalities and severe injuries - on County-maintained roadways. With a Safety Action Plan in place, the County will be eligible for federal and state grant funds to implement our highest priority safety projects and programs and help us achieve safer mobility throughout the County.
How Can I Help?
Input from local residents is an important part of developing this Plan. The interactive map below will allow you to identify specific locations where you would like to see safety improvements. Please look at the map and insert a marker at locations where improvements are needed, and describe concerns you have, things you may have witnessed, and any suggestions for how to improve safety.
There is also a tab below where you can access brief survey. Your responses will help us understand local transportation safety priorities and needs. The survey is brief and should only take a few minutes of your time.
Thank you for your interest in this project and for helping to improve the safety of travel in Shasta County!
